With just about two hours sleep, I managed to get my tent, sleeping bag, bedroll stowed and myself dressed for today's ride before breakfast was served. I'll admit I had help from some other riders who are more experienced (or just capable) at this camping thing.
Breakfast was a hearty treat. See captioned pictures at bottom. I almost can't believe we're being treated so well. Todays ride will be in two parts: one will be an approach up the continental divide and down, and the other will be a short 20 miler consisting of mostly going downhill. To avoid having to negotiate downtown streets, the guides will pick us up and drive us the last hour into the city.
I found out that the rest of the riders had little sleep either because of the wind. As we waited for breakfast, the guides kept telling us the wind wold die down by the time we needed to roll (8:00). Seriously, if they remained as strong, I don't think I could keep upright on my bike. But, Alex, the guide, was right. The wind did die down substantially but still remained in our faces as we left the campgrounds behind.
The climb up to the pass was no joke. Just had to settle in and push against the wind (did I mention the wind?). But It was a great personal achievement. It makes the fourth time I've been up and over on a bike. Overall, again just really huge vistas in Big Sky country. Still just a bit disappointed with the haze still evident from the fires out west.
After going over and down the summit we finished this leg of our cycling route, and hopped in a van for a transfer to the next leg. I may have taken a nap en route. I mean, really, two hours sleep all night?
